The pre-hospital trauma course (phtls course) is a training course that aims to teach participants how to deal with emergencies and acute injuries before the patient arrives at the hospital. This course was developed by the American Board of Evidence-Based Emergency Medical Care (NAEMT) in collaboration with the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

The objectives of the Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course include:

  • Teach participants the basic concepts and principles of acute trauma management before patients arrive at the hospital.
  • Provide participants with the knowledge to quickly and effectively assess emergency situations and acute injuries.
  • Teach participants the correct procedures to act quickly and appropriately in emergency situations before the arrival of specialized medical care.
  • Develop participants' skills in providing primary care to the injured in emergency situations and dealing with acute injuries efficiently.
  • Enhance participants' ability to deal with injuries in unfavorable environments such as traffic accidents, natural disasters, and remote areas.
  • Teach participants to coordinate and collaborate with other healthcare teams to improve emergency care outcomes.
  • Encourage participants to continuously learn and periodically update the acquired knowledge and skills to ensure optimal primary care delivery according to the latest medical practices.

These objectives seek to enable participants to efficiently deal with acute injuries and provide effective and rapid pre-hospital primary medical care, which contributes to improving the chances of survival and minimizing complications resulting from injuries
